EUSAIR facilitating the enlargement process in the environmental sector

Caricamento Eventi

This workshop will discuss the findings of the study on the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR) facilitating the enlargement process of Western Balkans, conducted by OBCT/CeSPI on EUSAIR’s potential to support the enlargement process into the Western Balkans.

It focuses on environmental issues (chapter 27 of the acquis) and contributes to the discussion on the future revision of the EUSAIR Action Plan. EUSAIR may facilitate the adoption of the acquis in the WB countries and the implementation of EU policies and strategies. Although the environmental alignment requires significant investments, testing the potential of EUSAIR in this sector could bring clear benefits to the enlargement process. EUSAIR is a platform where different processes and funds may converge, strengthening the administrative capacity in the WB countries. Its promotion of stakeholders’ involvement is a way to increase the accountability of governments and consolidate democracy.
